Choir Director at USM

Singing is my passion and music is my favorite.  I never thought that I would become the Choir Director of The University Of Southern Mississippi African American Student Organization Gospel Choir (AASO).  It has been such a wonderful experience for me.  I gain a spirit mind and learned how to handle myself with a larger group.  Being a Gospel Choir Director made me be more courtesy to others as well patient.

Things I learned to adjust to is taking control making sure others are doing what they are suppose to do.  Also, it is my duty to cooperate with the Music Staff
·       To select, arrange,  and direct all music performed by the choir
·       To assist in auditioning prospective members.
·       To be responsible for the equipment i.e. keyboard and drums
·       The music staff shall consist of the assistant director(s), section leaders, musician(s), and one member of the choir elected by majority vote.
I established to create an Constisution which states: The purpose of the Afro-American Gospel Choir shall be to provide an outlet for those students interested in performing gospel and spiritual music unique to the Afro-American culture.  Attempting to bring a sense of awareness to those with whom it comes into contact, through a variety of programs and activities – the choir travels throughout the state serving as a recruiting force for the University of Southern Mississippi.  Further, this purpose shall be fulfilled by the choir’s performances for the University of Southern Mississippi functions; religious, civic, and social organizations; patriotic events and similar events as deemed by its officers and members.  It shall also be in accord with the purpose and philosophy of this organization to uphold a high regard for and promote academic achievement.

The AASO Gospel Choir is affilated with the African American Student Organization on campus at The University Of Southern Mississippi their office is located in The Hub. Taking on this title was very diffcult in the beginning but as I got more adjusted to the things that I needed to do as the Choir Director.  I have many rules and guideline that I can share and if anyone needs any ideas or tips I will be glad to help them.

We also have many event going on.  The most current one is the gospel music concert and EVERYONE is invited.  Required information is located below:

Group Project

Introduction:

The group I am in are partner with Hattiesburg Clinic to help raise awareness for Relay for Life. They have expressed different fundraisers that we can help with and feel very confident that we will be beneficial to their projects.

Discussions:

As a group we all are doing our parts to complete this project.  To accomplish this project our first objective is to meet with the public relations manager of Hattiesburg Clinic to discuss what events and promotional opportunities we can participate in. On Wednesday we will meet with Yarrow. After meeting and gathering all the information needed we will meet again to discuss the decisions we will make and complete a proposal and we then will began to work on our projects.

Conclusions:

I think group work can sometimes be effective.  There are times where a group of people can bring more and offer more.  Research groups are to work together and everyone takes some form of action to contribute towards the group.  Farther most important thing is to make sure everyone is able to meet up with the group.  This group was pretty much compatible with schedules and time.

Recommendation:

At times being late can hinder the group progress.  But we all put effort and made the best of the time.  The most successful thing was everyone had done what they needed for the group as far as assignments.  I think the main focus with the group is to make sure everyone did apart and not just trying to get a free grade.  It is a great idea to make everyone do something outside the group to bring to the next group meeting.

Job Search

Recently I spoke with your Catering Manager, Jonathan H.  He informed me of your company Web site and I saw some openings for a Catering Manager for the Southern Foodservices.  The positions reflect my future goal in becoming my own chef after completing Culinary Arts school.  This seems to be a great opportunity for me to gain experience and usage of my skills.
As you review my enclosed resume, you will note that I am currently enrolled at The University of Southern Mississippi to obtain a Bachelor of Community Health Science.  This opportunity can familiarized me with catering theory, menu-planning, and food administration.  I am health-conscious and enjoy working closely with others. . I believe that I could make a significant contribution to your organization.
Job searching can be very risky if you do not take the time to explore and learn about the job you are interested in.  In this case knowing the right and correct people to contact can help you a whole lot in any giving term.

Improving Professional Correspondence

To: T. Leoni, Manager, Personnel Department
From: Donald Pryzblo, Manager, Data Processing Department
Subject: INCORRECT PAYROLL CHECKS
I have been reviewing the “errors” in the computer files.
Contrary to what you insinuated in our meeting, the majority of these errors were made by your clerks. I do not feel that my people should be blamed for this. They are correctly copying the faulty time tickets that your clerks are preparing.
You and I discussed requiring my computer operators to perform the very time-consuming task of comparing their entries against the time sheets from which your clerks are miscopying.
My people do not have the time to correct the errors made by your people, and I will not hire additional help for such work.
I recommend that you tell your clerks to review their work carefully before giving it to the computer operators.

In reviewing this Correspondences I personally would not change anything.  But the tone of it is very obvious that this person is a little up set.  And it is a few subject and verb agreements errors in it but far that I do not see anything wrong.  It maybe wrong for a professional setting.  A memo is a common interoffice communication tool that is used in business, companies and organizations all over the world. Employers use memos to convey important information to others in a timely manner. It's not difficult to write a professional memo, but there are a few things that you should know about this type of letter.

The Brochure

By making your brochure you are first and foremost applying persuasive techniques and descriptive writing. This means that you will both address a specific audience with the purpose of convincing them to choose your vacation resport, and you will also use descriptive language to accentuate all the characteristics of the place, and the things you would encounter there.
Secondly, you are applying technology, art, and creativity to a project that is already packed with literary techniques.
Third, all brochures require organized thinking, which is a problem solving skill that can be used throughout the curriculum. This is a healthy way to retain and analyze information as well.
Making a brochure is a good exercise in the elements of advertising.  Assignments such as the brochure force students to place themselves in the position of having to convince outsiders why.  In this process, students learn some of the fundamental precepts of advertising. The idea of being able to communicate desirable elements in a small location or with a fixed number of words is quite powerful.  At the same time, students are able to learn about natural and human created elements of a certain place that are distinctive.  Finally, I would submit that the assignment itself is quite valuable because it allows students to choose in what arena upon which they wish to focus their energies.  The result is a form of learning that enhances student autonomy, making them stronger in a particular aspect or multiple aspects of an area of study

“Feeling Like a Freshman Again”

Becoming a transfer student almost really makes you feel like a freshman again. Upon reading this article “Feeling Like a Freshman Again”: The Transfer Student Transition” basically made me realize that I am an experienced college goer. I have already gone through the process of college applications and all the other things required for me to attend college. I have been to two other junior colleges and I still felt like a freshman when I started the university.

It’s the process of getting use of the campus and learning where all the classes are. The adjustment time was shorter than the first-year students because I have done it before. In the article talks about the two parts of the transfer transition which are: the Transfer Process and Adjustment once at the Receiving Institution. The Transfer Process encompasses the steps students take to move from their current or sending Institution received one. For instance, deciding on what school to attend and starting the application process. In the application process that where you have to worry about your GPA and what degree you already hold.

The Adjustment once at the Receiving Institution maybe the most challenged one. Because once you get accepted to the college the process now begins on learning the campus and getting adjusted to the new institution. The disadvantage of making you feel like a freshman again is the lack of knowledge about how the new school works like parking on campus and finding classes. It’s a big differences transferring from this small college to a big university.

As a student and over looker, I always wanted to know the differences in attending a junior college versus a major university. Having first experience is always the best way to learn. Having to attend two junior colleges as well as a university, I can now weigh the options of going to either one. Being a student at USM is a lot different than other schools. It is more of a fast pace, yet energetic place to be. There are many activities going on every day. They have activities such as basketball games, campus celebration, and Greek life. I have to keep track of everything by writing things down in a calendar. Deadlines come so fast that I have to balance out party time with class time. The most interesting topic in “Feeling Like a Freshman” is how they have this group called TRIG (transfer student interest group) and it focus on the transfer process and about being a transfer student. The group can help you balance out the things and make you feel like you have a small support group to rely on.

ENG:333 "Sex Among Black and White Americans" Blog 2

This is piece of a project that I had to work on in my CHS class.

Among Black and White Americans as well as many other nationalities believe sex to be natural. Sex is generally taught in some point in everyone’s life whether its in the early or late stages of life. Regarding to who you are you might have different norms and morals about sex. It could be your orientation, religion, gender, or race. As you will learn that everything possible is natural, which makes it normal and if its normal it must be morally right.

What IsSex? Sex is well sex can be broken down into many forms. Some forms are vaginal, oral, anal, and masturbation sex. Vaginal sex is what most people think of as sex, which specially means when a male inserts his penis inside of a female vagina. It is the only form of sex that can lead to pregnancy and also transmitted diseases. Vagina sex is only preformed among heterosexual couples. Heterosexual is what most people consider as straight, it is when people are attracted to someone of the opposite gender. Oral sex is where the mouth is in contact with the male or female genitals. Oral sex can cause the spread of sexual transmitted diseases but it can not cause pregnancy. Anal sex involves penetration to the anus it carries the same affect on diseases as vaginal and oral sex. There is no chance of pregnancy from this style. The most safest style of sex is masturbation it cause no pregnancy or spread of transmitted disease. Masturbation is the process of you touching on yourself. You can also have what they call mutual masturbation. Mutual masturbation is when you masturbate with or in front of your partner. Since there is no genital contact the is no pregnancy, down fall there could possible be transmission of diseases if done improperly. Oral, anal, and masturbation all can be performed between heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, and lesbian.

People have different sexual orientation toward who they maybe romantically and sexually attracted to. Heterosexual which has already been explain is straight people. Bisexual people are ones that tends to have sexual attractions with males and females. There are two orientations that are called gay which is homosexual and lesbian. Homosexual is where males have an interest in the same sex. Homosexual pertains to the males where as lesbian pertains to the females. A lesbian would be a female who are attracted to another female. There is another style of orientation that is much safe and a person is not sexually attracted to another person, but may enjoy close and intimate relationships as well called asexual. Many people believe that sexuality is a moral and some think it is a norm. In American culture, heterosexuality is the only sexual orientation that is considered fully social and legally validated and some cultures view orientation differently and more acceptable. I believe it would just be who you are and what you believe in regarding sex. Most people do not define there orientation and some may think that they do not fit into any category. Researches are using different approaches on orientation and not focusing just on one. They are still creating models such as the Kinsey model regards to sex and many other revenues under the topic. But according to all my reading they like to refer to the Kinsey model.

Religion could also be a major effect of how sex is viewed. I think this is where people focus on “What is moral and what is normal?” I could spend a significantly amount of time discussing the religion aspect of sex. People have different beliefs and values. Therefore, I decided not to go into great debt about it because that is something that you learn from your heritage or background culture. But, there may be some religion references within this research. Gender as well is limited but can be an issue about sexuality. General you think of gender as male or female but, in today society we have people who are transsexuals or has gender exchanged. Regarding race it has low effect too. Race come differently between Black, White Americans and many more. In this research I would like to discuss the race issues and a little on gender between males and females of Black and White Americans.
